The Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reforms, Emmanuel Bonde, in his capacity as the chairman of the Technical Committee for the Recruitment of 25,000 workers into the Public Service, has assured candidates on wednesday that the government is working towards the employment of competent wokers at the right places who can offer services required to take Cameroon’s public service forward. He was addressing journalistson wednesday, June 29 during a press conference at the National School of Administration and Magistracy.

Flanked by the Minister of Communications, Issa Tchiroma, Emmanuel Bonde told the press that the committee did not meet the deadline for the ‘Operation New Jobs in the Public Service’ because government wants the exercise to be as transparent and serene as possible. He said the technical committee was faced with abnormalities from some candidates’ files. The committee has so far detected 3,253 cases above age limit, 7,408 changed their age, identification card and double identity. Over 280 fake certificates were detected out of the 35,759 diplomas already processed. It is in line with this that the committee is paying more attention to authenticate and screen through the 305, 574 files that were received for the recruitment exercise.

“We want management based on results, having the right people at the right places, and people who can render efficient services to the State,” Emmanuel Bonde reiterated. “Fake documents have no place in the country’s sublic service and meritocracy is the watchword,” he added. He dismissed claims that Government lacks funds for the exercise and assured candidates that the decision has been taken and all hands are on deck for its implementation. “Government wants to recruit and the 25,000 workers will be recruited,” the Minister affirmed.

Mr. Bonde also blamed the delay in the publication of results on the late arrival of files from some Regions and some embassies abroad. He also said some voluntary and involuntary errors were committed by candidates which have contributed to the extension of the verification process. The careful screening, he said, was aimed at ensuring accountability in the quest to create more employment in the country. He told reporters that government is in constant battle to recruit more workers into the Public Service, reason why some 13,000 doors have been opened for entry into the public service through direct competitive examinations and varied fields for this year.
